Pallasz Athéné University (PAE) was established with the merger of the Colleges of Kecskemét and Szolnok in July 2016.

According to the law since 1st August 2017. the new name is John von Neumann University.

The university offers programmes in four faculties: the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, the Teacher Training Faculty the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development, and the Faculty of Economy in Szolnok.

As the greatest strength of the university has always been the professional competence of its students, the implementation and development of a dual education system was set as a target to maintain this standard. In 2010, the launched of the dual training as like the German model was based on the strategic agreement with Mercedes Benz Manufacturing Lt and with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As part of the training of professionals, the university is continuously cooperating with regional companies and firms to ensure an efficient transition to the labour market for its students.

In addition to domestic partnership programmes, the University has entered into a bilateral agreement with more than forty partner institutions within the framework of the Socrates/Erasmus Programme to help students gain experience in different countries and develop a better understanding of the world.
